“There is no shortcut to success, it is a long struggle to preserve our past for the future. And it helps if you ensure that no one in society is left behind.”
With the passing of Ambicaji, Founder President of Federation of Business and Professional Women and the award-winning Dwarika's Hotels, the world lost an enterprising and charismatic leader, staunch advocate for women's empowerment, heritage champion, and philanthropist. Being an Advisor for the BEES Network, she passionately participated in shaping the BEES Strategic Plan, highlighting her unwavering dedication to empowering the lives of South Asian women.
We were deeply moved by her warmth and hospitality when she hosted us at Dwarika's in 2022. Her encouragement and support will be cherished by all members and we are deeply grateful to have known someone like her.
“Empowerment will not be served to you. I challenge you. Do your own thing."
Ambicaji’s dedication, kindness, resilience, and boundless energy have left an enduring legacy. She is an icon who will forever remain in our hearts.
May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

“‘We Are Poor But So Many’ - A Leader Who Empowered Millions”
With the passing of Elaben, the world lost a visionary leader and champion for women’s rights and grassroots development. Through grassroots organizing, Elaben gave these previously unrepresented women a unified voice and leverage to access financial services, social protections and advocacy support. As a recipient of numerous awards including the Padma Bhushan, Ramon Magsaysay Award and Right Livelihood Award for her service, Elaben leaves an unmatched legacy of empowerment from the bottom up. She helped ignite capabilities in some of the world’s most marginal groups, demonstrating the immense potential when informal workers organize.
The world owes immense gratitude for Elaben’s life-long dedication to illuminating a path towards economic inclusion and agency for all.
Empowering women, her life's role
Uplifting workers, her noble goal
Uniting millions, her vision shone
Legacy immortal, Elaben lives on
